Do you enjoy reading fiction in women’s magazines? Ever thought about writing and submitting a story, but not sure where to start?

By booking this first workshop, you will be automatically enrolled for the remaining sessions on:

  • Friday 13 November, 1pm to 3pm
  • Friday 20 November, 1pm to 3pm

Join published writer Claire Buckle for a series of workshops aimed specifically at writing stories for women’s magazines. Using examples from her own work, Claire will explain how to turn your experiences into fiction, where to find inspiration and ideas and how to develop relatable characters. Take part in writing exercises aimed at unlocking your creative potential and share the results in a relaxed and informal setting.

Session 1 – Building blocks of Fiction Writing. Learn about the basics of writing short stories for magazines. This would include inspiration and ideas, how to begin a story and the importance of research. A practical exercise for around ten minutes would be a picture stimulus to start a story.

Session 2 – Technique and Skills. Develop your skills for fiction writing. We’d talk about point of view and head-hopping, editing to reduce or increase the word count and the importance of relatable characters. A practical exercise would be reading one of my stories with the ending omitted. How could the story be resolved?

Session 3 – Practical Aspects of Submitting. An insight into submitting to magazines along with helpful tips for success. How vital it is to follow guidelines, understanding the audience and overcoming rejection.

Once you have signed up for this session you will receive an email confirmation containing instructions and guidance on how to set up and join the live session.
