Session Four: Revision and Editing – The process of drafting a poem
Course outline:
This poetry course is open to anyone who wants to have a close but curious look at how poetry, in all its shapes and styles, succeeds in capturing the reader’s imagination and expressing our personal, yet collective, hearts, minds, and souls.
The course considers a variety of examples from the past and present as stimuli for writing, encouraging participants to enjoy the ‘conversation’ between poets and to be a part of it themselves; and, it engages in discussions of issues relating to poetry writing, as well as focusing on the processes of writing and revision.
The primary aim of the course is to hone your writing skills and develop your understanding of what constitutes a rewarding poem, no matter your writing experience or your current understanding. Together, we will read and write, expand and grow, having lots of literary fun and learning how to enjoy our own ‘writer’s journey’ along the way, no matter where it leads us.
The poetry classes are on a drop in basis and appropriate for all levels from beginner to published.
Please note there is a supporting Google Classroom for this course and the direct link to join can be found in confirmation email under the Additional information section.
