Free Drop-in Sessions
Last year, Dagenham Children’s Library underwent a major transformation. Join us on 13 April, 11am-3pm, for a dynamic day of storytelling from children’s authors, meet and greets, book signings & hands-on craft workshops to celebrate the renovation.
Check out the programme for the day below!
(Timings are approximate)
Inspired by the origin of books, the children will be writing stories on leaves that will be linked together on a vine and displayed in the Children’s Library!
Mike Kilbey, children’s author & illustrator, will also be in attendance signing and reading from his children’s book Silly Billy Swim Trunks: The Adventures of Dudley Clump (and best friend Charlie Robinson). Mike Kilbey is one of our published Book Challengers, and one of the only challengers who published a children’s book. Silly Billy Swim Trunks is a charmingly adventurous book that follows a nine year old, Charlie Robinson, and his best friend, a spider named ‘Dudley’ who lost a leg playing rugby.
Silly Billy Swim Trunks will be available to purchase on the day for £5.
The children will be creating and writing snappy tales on leaves to populate the ‘Fable Forest’, chaining them together on a vine and hanging them in the Children’s Library!
Ryan Morrissey, children’s author and illustrator, will be signing and reading copies of his books to the kids. Ryan Morrissey is full time teacher who has a passion for teaching writing. He enjoys writing stories with children and then bringing these stories to life in books Bert’s Little Secret, A Kitten In My Closet and Cameron, You’re A Big Mouse Now. As a teacher, many of his stories come with layers of meaning that can be used to talk to children about a variety of subjects.
Ryan Morrissey’s books will be available to purchase on the day for £5 each, or two for £8!
