Masterclasses with The London Library

Pen to Print and The London Library are joining forces for the third year, to bring you a series of workshops designed to take you through different creative writing processes, including performance, poetry and graphic novel writing and how to fund your work. The workshops all take place at the atmospheric London Library and are open to aspiring writers in any genre.

The workshops are FREE to book and run from 11am to 1pm at the London Library. All participants will receive a complimentary London Library day ticket (worth £30) so that you can continue writing or using the Library until it closes at 5.30pm (please bring photo ID and/or Proof of Address).

A guided tour of the Library will be on offer after the workshop for anyone who wants to explore. Tea and coffee will be provided throughout the workshop.

Tell your Story – Performance Poetry Workshop with Zohab Khan

In this session, poet Zohab Zee Khan will work with participants through the process of turning the written word into performance poetry. This session is designed to draw inspiration from your life and create a piece of writing ready to be performed. Through writing exercises, discussions, and practice performances, you’ll develop confidence and skills to connect with your audience through spoken word.

Writing for Performance with Kelly Jones

This fun and practical session, taught by playwright Kelly Jones, will explore writing for different performance media including theatre, television and audio drama. We’ll begin by looking at essential tools to find ideas, create characters and structure compelling stories for performance. We will then look at how we use those stories and adapt them for different platforms. You will receive a day pass so you can continue to use the Library and resources through-out the day.

Fundraising – Overview/Demystify the process with Patrick Cash

The first part of this session, taught by Patrick Cash will include an overview on how the Arts Council can support an individual creative writing practice, through their National Lottery Programme Grants and Developing Your Creative Practice funding strands. There’ll be a presentation with information on both programmes, how much you can apply for, and what the application form entails.

Crafting Visual Storytelling with Miriam Gold

Often used to tackle complex narratives in the present and past, as memoir, fiction and non fiction, the graphic novel is an increasingly read and enjoyed way of storytelling. In this session, author and illustrator Miriam Gold will help you to kickstart your graphic story – as writer, or illustrator, or both. This workshop will open up ways of telling your story visually and take you through drawing and writing exercises. Using some of the graphic novels in the London Library collection as reference, you will leave full of ideas on how to bring your graphic story in long or short form to life.
