Write On! Interviews: Poet Sanjana Arunkumar
Write On! interviews poet Sanjana Arunkumar
Sanjana says: “I’m Sanjana Arunkumar. I’m a nine-year-old just finished Year 4 in Gascoigne Primary School in Barking. My family and friends call me a bookworm. I just can’t get enough of reading! I’m also known for my fun-loving and friendly nature.”
WO: How would you describe your writing to someone new to it?
SA: I started writing recently and have just managed to finish my first book. If you like poems and the joys of everyday life, then this collection will enchant you.
WO: Can you tell us a bit about your book Poetic Beginnings?
SA: Poetic Beginnings is a collection of poems made of things I came across in my day-to-day life. Readers have told me they’re funny; I hope you think so too.
WO: What inspires you to write?
SA: I get lots of ideas when I read. I wanted to try writing these ideas down and that started my writing journey. When I showed them my book, family, friends, teachers and everyone in school, in fact, congratulated me and said encouraging words. I liked that and wanted more of it.
WO: Recently Write On! explored the theme of ‘Change’. How do you feel about change?
SA: I like it because staying in the same routine gets a bit boring. I recommend thinking of change as another adventure and new mystery to solve.
WO: What one piece of advice would you give an aspiring writer?
SA: Don’t wait for the perfect time and story/idea to start. Just make a start and you’ll get some ideas along the journey!
WO: Can you tell us anything about future projects?
SA: I’m currently writing a story in the fantasy and adventure genre and still thinking about a good title. Wish me luck!
WO: Lastly, if you could choose one fictional animal/creature to be a pet or companion, who would it be and why?
SA: I want Pegasus (from Greek mythology) to be my pet or companion. I can fly anywhere with it (mortal or immortal realms).
