Welcome to National Storytelling Week! From January 23rd to January 29th, we are celebrating the art of storytelling and all the creative minds that bring stories to life. To mark the occasion, we are excited to announce we’re hosting another First Line Generator Contest.

Not only is the first line generator a fun way to generate new story ideas, but it’s also a useful tool exercise that can help inspire writers and demolish writer’s block.

Here’s how it works: your challenge is to write the ultimate first line that would be the beginning of a great story. All entries will be added to our first line generator, which is one of the most popular features of our site.

To enter the contest, visit our competitions page here. The competition closes 6 February 2023 at 5pm, and the winner will be announced on 10 February 2023.

But that’s not all! The first place prize is a selection of books, hand-picked by the Pen to Print team, from last year’s ReadFest. So not only will you have the chance to see your first line in action on our website, but you’ll also get to add some amazing reads to your bookshelf.
